HOW IT WORKS
Join, Create, Innovate: A Path to Building Sustainable Transport Solutions
A Movement thrives on collaboration and participation from people like you. Whether you’re an experienced designer or a community member with a big idea, you can contribute to making sustainable transport a reality. Here’s how it works:
- Submit Your Design
- If you have a great idea for a human-powered vehicle or transport solution, the first step is to submit your design. You don’t need to be an expert—just share your vision.
- Each project will be different depending on the needs in your particular community or area. For example, some might regard the task of moving goods, people moving and wheelchair moving devices to be separate tasks rather than an integrated one. While we clearly favor their combination, that is far from the only good solution and working on any of these needs is commendable. We welcome all your ideas and designs.
- Your submission can be a sketch, blueprint, or detailed CAD model, we welcome all contributions.
- The goal is for submitted designs to be reviewed by the global community, allowing contributors to receive feedback that helps them improve and refine their ideas. As we progress, we shall put in place the system for this to happen seamlessly.
- Collaborate in Local Maker Spaces
- Once a design is submitted, it can be developed and prototyped in a local maker space. These spaces are equipped with tools, equipment, and experts who can help turn your idea into a reality. We are building a directory of maker spaces for your reference, if you have a space that we can list as available to members, please contact us.
- You’ll have the chance to work alongside other innovators, engineers, and makers in your community, sharing knowledge and learning together.
- Can’t find a local maker space? We are preparing resources on how to set one up, from sourcing tools to finding collaborators, and we shall share the link soon.
- Build and Test Prototypes
- After your design has been reviewed by the community, and gotten feedback, and been refined, the next step is to build a working prototype. The goal is to test the design in real-world conditions and see how it performs.
- Testing is a crucial part of the process. You’ll be able to gather feedback from the community, troubleshoot issues, and make necessary improvements.
- Iterate and Share Feedback
- Once the prototype is tested, it’s time to gather feedback from users and the broader community. This step is critical for refining the vehicle and ensuring it meets the local transport needs.
- The feedback loop involves gathering insights on performance, durability, and usability. This iterative process helps us move closer to perfecting the design.
- Manufacture Locally
- When the design is ready and tested, the next step is to begin manufacturing. In keeping with our values of decentralization, the vehicles are produced locally, creating jobs and economic opportunities within the community.
- Each community is encouraged to set up micro-manufacturing hubs, where vehicles can be built on-demand based on local needs. This allows for flexibility, customization, and local ownership.
- As much as possible, we recommend the use of locally sourced materials, limiting sourcing to only what simply can not be found or made locally. It is also best that funds are sourced locally.
- In due course we shall build a database with links to local sources of materials and manufacturing hubs and other resources.
- Launch and Scale the Project
- Once your vehicle is ready, it’s time to launch it into your community! Local ownership means that the community takes charge of the project, ensuring that the vehicle is maintained, improved, and scaled according to need.
- Communities can share their successes with the broader global network, inspiring others to take up similar projects.
